Sweet, thanks for writing. Obviously, I can be a little slow when it comes to updating my blog. If you make it out to the Salmo-Priest Loop and get some pictures up, post a link so I can check them out. I really enjoyed that hike and would do it again.

You are definitely a masochist for carrying half your weight, haha. I don't have a good enough back to do that. But you're right on about our soldiers overseas lugging ridiculously heavy packs and that's a great way to keep perspective. I read Lone Survivor recently and have a tremendous amount of new found respect for Marcus Luttrell and soldiers like him who will do whatever it takes, grind though the worst conditions, whatever, anything, to protect our country.

I found this place while doing a search for information on the Salmo-Priest Loop. Hopefully I'll make my trip in late July to early August. Your pictures definitely make me stoked to get out there.

I loved the comments about the backpacking lists. Especially The Editor's speech on what designates a "true expert". Even at 130 pounds, I don't really mind a pack that might weight up to nearly half my weight. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a comfort-oriented person, and I'm also not one of these guys willing to pay 5 times the price for half the weight. I figure if I want to torture myself with a heavier load, it's my own call. I doesn't make me an idiot; it just makes me a masochist. I also keep in mind the packs some of my friends in the military are carrying in some of the most desolate conditions on Earth and somehow I feel just fine.

Derek, I changed the first photo to more closely represent northeastern Washington wilderness...mostly because I wanted to use the road pic in Part 2.

Haha sweet. My site has power. I say boycott Firefox but I know it's all part of being anti-establishment to use second-rate software developed by employees of a failed company.

I'm boycotting your site until you make it firefox compatible. It's crashed my browser twice, crashed my whole computer once and when I open your site in a bunch of tabs it starts playing automatically and I get a galloping soundtrack when I'm trying to view other pages.......

ok, I got it now. It looks a lot like capitol forest on that trail, except much less green. Bring your bike over and I'll show you what I mean.........

It also sounds like you are either riding a small horse, or wearing horseshoes haha

Hey Derek the last photo is a video. Firefox sucks and doesn't play it quite right but Internet Explorer (version 7 anyway) does it right although the browser may prompt you to install an Active-X control. I didn't think about the photo of the road not lining up with the scary wilderness...ha.

As for you Marshall, I think you need to reread it a few times to get it through your thick skull that you're being a condescending gayface. Justifying poles to you isn't worth my time, I'd rather just stab you in the face with them. There's two k's in trekking by the way.
