Bangkok to Siem Reap III
Once we got on our new bus, which Danica kindly helped load with the packs, after the late night hike through bandits, the fun wasn’t over yet.
We still had a good distance to go and everyone was pretty loopy after a long day of traveling so they started singing French songs, since most of them on the bus seemed to be French, plus our guide Richard knew French. Actually, first they requested Richard to sing so he did, he sang a couple songs in french, slow pretty songs it seemed. The second one was even mic’d.
After he finished all the loud and crazy frenchies started singing song after song. But then they’d throw in some random song like “We will rock you.” It was good times, Danica and I were sitting right behind the driver and passenger seat which was nice because we had a cool breeze through the open windows on the side.
We stopped at a place around midnight i suppose to get some food, along with alcohol for many of them. So back on the bus we got some singing for a bit again, but i was somehow able to fall asleep and get some needed rest. We arrived in Siam Reap at 2:45 am and they dropped us off at a good priced hotel, the Angkor Daisy at $5 a night for a double.
Before I move onto our Siam Reap experiences, I want to mention a couple observations from the bus ride. First, most cars seem to be righty, although I’ve seen some lefty ones, but they drive on the right side of the road! Right side of the road is the average side they drive on anyway. Second, the road from the border to Siam Reap is like perfectly straight with no winding or turning. They can do that because there are no mountains in the way! But the road is horribly horribly bumpy until a certain point so you can’t go any faster than you would on a windy road. Third, there were houses along the road all the way. There didn’t seem to be a break in them hardly, but when i say houses, I mean more like shantys. they’re like a bunch of wood tied together to create enough of a skeleton of a house to call it shelter. That’s it but that whole bus ride experience was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done.
